Centre Police Arrest Man in Connection with Theft of Two Vehicles

A Cherokee County man remains behind bars following his arrest Sunday (July 25th) in connection with the theft of two motor vehicles, one in Centre and one in Gadsden.

According to Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship, 37 year old Daniel Pittman stands charged with Receiving Stolen property 1st Degree, and Theft of Property 1st Degree, both felonies.  Investigator Randy Mayorga with the Centre PD said that two separate incidents worked together to lead to the arrest.

Last Friday night (July 23rd) a Jeep Sahara was stolen from a gas station on Noccalula Road in Gadsden.

Investigator Mayorga recalled a 2002 Toyota Sequoyah had been stolen from behind the old middle school back on July 15th – and THAT vehicle was discovered the same day the Jeep was stolen.  It had been left abandoned off Noccalula Road.

Feeling the two incidents were possibly related, police followed up several leads that led to the recovery of the stolen Jeep, which was located in Centre.

Investigator Mayorga stated that law enforcement had a description of the suspect in the theft of the Toyota including the clothing – which was found inside the Jeep at the time of recovery – confirming that the two thefts were tied together..

It appeared that the suspect, when the opportunity arose, ditched the vehicle stolen out of Centre and fled in the Jeep taken from the gas station – eventually returning to his residence in Cherokee County.

Pittman remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
