Former Cherokee County High School football lineman Isaac Hunter has had a change of heart.

Hunter, who originally signed with Division III Greensboro College in North Carolina, has gotten out of his scholarship in favor of one recently offered by Lagrange College (Ga.).

The 5-foot-10, 265-pound Hunter played both sides for the Warriors (7-4) last season. He was the second-highest graded offensive lineman with 15 knockdowns. He also had 45 tackles (8 solos, 37 assists) with four tackles for loss and two assists on defense.

“There were many factors that contributed to the change, but one of the main ones was how far away the school was,” Hunter said. “Lagrange is only two hours away. Greensboro is six hours and 30 minutes away. Another reason was of course my family. My family was happy for me getting to go to college, but being that far away didn’t sit right with them and it didn’t sit right with me either.”

Hunter also said Lagrange’s offer didn’t come until Tuesday. He said the school offered more academic choices to help him in his field of study, which is sports medicine. Hunter intends on becoming a physical therapist.

“It wasn’t hard to get out of the scholarship (signed with Greensboro). I just told the coach my reasoning and he understood,” Hunter said. “The college was a long drive away from home, and he understood how me and my family were feeling.”

Hunter is the sixth Cherokee County High School football player to sign from last season’s Warrior team.
