Former Piedmont Police Chief Hired As A Courthouse Security Deputy in Calhoun County

Last month former Piedmont Police Chief Freddie Norton announced that he would be retiring effective immediately, it was then learned that the Town of Piedmont had apparently placed Norton on administrative paid leave pending an investigation into complaints received in the form of letters to the council and mayor from several officers within the department.

We have now learned that Norton has been hired as a Courthouse Security Officer for the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

That announcement came on Thursday, according to a story published by the Anniston Star.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade brought up the new hire during a recent meeting of the Calhoun County 911 Board. Sheriff Wade said “He’s experienced and we are glad to have him at the courthouse.”

When asked by The Star if this would bring an end to any city investigation, Norton said “I have no idea what they’re going to do, I’m retired.”

We attempted to contact Piedmont Mayor Bill Baker on Friday afternoon, but he was not immediately available.
