Tense Moments as Man Working High Atop AT&T Cell Phone Tower Experiences Heat-Related Illness

There were some tense moments at a location on County Road 103 off of Highway 35, on Wednesday morning, when a worker became ill while several hundred feet off the ground on an AT&T cell phone tower.

The individual – reportedly, in his late 20’s – had apparently been at work for around four hours when he began having trouble.

Emergency personnel were notified at that point while another worker ascended the tower in an effort to provide assistance, and he was eventually able to help the victim down, where he was checked out by medics and then transported to an area hospital.

Medical personnel say it appeared that he was suffering from a heat-related illness.

Those responding to that scene included Floyd EMS, the Cherokee County EMA Office. Broomtown Fire Department, members of the DeKalb and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Offices and the National Park Service.
