A former resident of Cherokee County – who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for Attempted Murder – is now behind bars.

According to a news release issued by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office – 34 year old Jeffery Epps, formerly of Gaylesville – was taken into custody on Tuesday, following a traffic stop on County Road 44.

Earlier in the day the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Albertville Police that Epps was at a residence located on County Road 52 in DeKalb County; according to Sheriff Nick Welden, while the Special Response Team was making preparations to go to the home, Epps left the scene.

Shortly thereafter – investigators attempted to conduct a traffic stop on County Road 44 – Epps attempted to flee and led them on a short chase before being apprehended; he was later turned over to Albertville Police and transported to the City Jail – before being moved to the Marshall County Detention Center, where he remains under bond of $100,000.

According to reports by WAFF-TV, the Attempted Murder charge stemmed from Epps allegedly shooting an Albertville resident on April 26th of this year (2021).

Epps had recently been residing in the Dawson area.
