DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Reports Extremely Busy First Half of April

FORT PAYNE, Ala. The first two weeks of April have proved to be busy for local law enforcement.

On Thursday, April 1st, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a disturbance/welfare check on County Road 138 in Henagar.  When deputies entered the residence, they noticed drug paraphernalia throughout the house.  Ethan Edward Phillips (28 of Henagar) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist.

Also, on Thursday, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies conduced a traffic stop on County Road 146 near the Shiloh Community resulting in finding methamphetamine and a controlled substance in the vehicle.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist with this stop.  Adam Heath Chapman (39 of Rainsville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x2) and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Saturday, April 3rd, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a “be on the lookout” when they noticed the vehicle that had been lost during a pursuit in Madison County.  The vehicle was on Al Hwy 40 near Henagar, going toward I-59 in Hammondville, when it was spotted and the pursuit picked back up.  The driver then lost control of the vehicle and wrecked.  Deputies and Narcotics Agents arrived on scene finding drug paraphernalia.  Jeremy Raemon Bush (31 of Eight Mile, AL) was arrested and booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center where they found him to be in possession of illegal contraband.   Bush was charged with Attempt to Elude Police, Reckless Endangerment, Promote Prison Contraband 2nd, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist.

On Sunday, April 4th, a vehicle pursuit started when Ider Police Officers attempted a traffic stop.  The suspect was later apprehended on Al Hwy 35 in Powell.  Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle.  Heather Leann Guinn (32 of Henagar) was charged with Escape 3rd, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Attempt to Elude Police (x2), Reckless Endangerment and Tampering with Physical Evidence.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist.

On Monday, April 5th, Sylvania Police Officers were responding to a call from a local business.  While there, officers found Tanya Marice Huttman (51 of Flat Rock) to be in possession of methamphetamine.  Huttman was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist.

On Tuesday, April 6th, Narcotics Agents attempted to stop a vehicle with no tag on County Road 159 and County Road 784 near the Cartersville area.  Attempting to flee, the driver accelerated but eventually stopped and was taken into custody.  Carlton Coolidge Welden (44 of Ider) was charged with Attempt to Elude Police and Reckless Endangerment.

Also on Tuesday, after receiving complaints of drug activity, Narcotics Agents along with Sylvania Police Officers responded to an apartment complex on Lakesite Drive in Sylvania.  While in the residence, agents found synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia, leading to the arrest of William Thomas Deering (45 of Sylvania).  Deering was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Illegal Possession of Prescription Pills and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On the same day, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on County Road 6 near Collinsville where methamphetamine was discovered in the vehicle.  Narcotics agents responded and Tonya Ann Seale (46 of Collinsville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Later that day, Narcotics Agents accompanied Sylvania Police Officers to a residence on County Road 233 near Sylvania where multiple complaints have been made about drug activity.  While at the residence, Agents discovered Gregory Thomas Benson (41 of Henagar) to be in possession of methamphetamine.  Benson was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Again, on Tuesday, Narcotics Agents noticed a vehicle driving recklessly at a high rate of speed in the Powell area on Pendergrass Street.  As agents tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped up in an attempt to flee.  The driver later pulled over on Hudgins Street and was taken into custody.  Methamphetamine, synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle.  Joshua Nathan Loudermilk (30 of Fort Payne) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x2), Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Attempt to Elude Police and Reckless Endangerment.  DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Rainsville Police Department and Fyffe Police Department assisted.

On Wednesday, April 7th, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 35 in Fort Payne finding methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.  Colin Roberts (35 of Cedar Bluff) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.   Narcotics Agents were called to assist.

Also, on Wednesday, Narcotics Agents conducted a traffic stop on County Road 102 and 47 between Sylvania and Powell.  Detecting a strong odor coming from the vehicle, agents found the driver to be in possession of marijuana.  Lisa Ann Crisp (43 of Dutton) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Also, on Wednesday, Ider Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on Al Hwy 75.  During the stop, methamphetamine was located in the vehicle.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist with the arrest of Jeremy Joel Benson (47 of Fort Payne).  Benson was charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance.

On the same day, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on County Road 155 near Shiloh Community.  During the stop, methamphetamine was located and deputies also identified the driver as having outstanding warrants with Ider Police Department.  Narcotics Agents responded to assist.  Sheena Elaine Haggard (24 of Higdon) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Thursday, April 8th, Ider Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on Al Hwy 75 and County Road 748 in Ider.  The driver of the vehicle initially gave a false name to the officer.  Once the correct identity was gained, it was found the driver had outstanding warrants.  David Beau Brown (26 of Rainsville) was charged with Use False ID to Obstruct Justice and Criminal Littering

On Friday, April 9th, Narcotics Agents were following up on complaints about drug activity at a residence on County Road 680 in Sylvania.  During the search, agents found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.  Gabriel Busby (47 of Sylvania) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance.

On Saturday, April 10th, Crossville Police Officers conducted a traffic stop near Gorge Street.  During the stop, it was found that the driver, Bradley Todd Brothers (48 of Crossville) had an outstanding warrant.  When the passenger, Janice Marie Phillips (34 of Crossville) exited the vehicle, drug paraphernalia was spotted.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist.  Brothers and Phillips were charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

On the same day, Fyffe Police Officers received a call of a female exhibiting strange behavior at Jack’s Restaurant.  While the officer was interacting with the female, he found her to be in possession of methamphetamine and prescription medication.  Narcotics Agents were called in to assist.  Dakota McGowan (47 of Fyffe) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Illegal Possession of Prescription Pills.

On Sunday, April 11th, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 35 in the Powell area.  During the stop, it was found that the driver of the vehicle had outstanding warrants with Henagar Police Department.  During a search, MaCalien Raee Whitaker (30 Fyffe) was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.   Whitaker was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist.

Also, on Sunday, Francisco Felix Morales (33 of Collinsville) was charged with Criminal Trespass 3rd, Public Intoxication, Promote Prison Contraband 2nd, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call of someone in a mobile home park, in the Kilpatrick area, that was harassing residents.  When Deputies arrived, they found Morales to be intoxicated.  Once he was brought in to the DeKalb County Detention Center, he was found to be in possession of synthetic marijuana.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist.

On Tuesday, April 13th, Ider Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on Al Hwy 75 in Ider.  During the stop marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found within the vehicle.  Crystal Lynn Whitaker (39 of Flat Rock) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st.  Narcotics Agents were called to assist.

Also, on Tuesday, Interdiction Agents conducted a traffic stop near County Road 58 in Geraldine finding the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.  Kevin Todd Parker (36 of Grove Oak) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Again, on Tuesday, Narcotics Agents received a tip that Chance Dewayne Reed (43 of Lindale, GA) was in possession of methamphetamine headed from Georgia to the Fort Payne area to sell the drug.  When Reed arrived to make the sale, he was arrested instead.  Approximately 8.5 grams of methamphetamine was confiscated.  Reed was charged with Attempt to Commit Cont Sub Crime and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, April 14th, DeKalb County Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on County Road 546 in Kilpatrick.  The driver of the vehicle accelerated, trying to flee.  The subject eventually stopped and was taken into custody.  Methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found within the vehicle.  Gary Wayne Smith (54 of Albertville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Attempt to Elude Police and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: “I can’t say enough how proud I am of our Law Enforcement in DeKalb County.  It is important that we work together to keep this poison off of our streets and out of the hands of our children, and I think we prove that every day with the number of arrests we make.  I also want to thank the public for all of the tips you provide because without you, some of these arrests wouldn’t have been possible.”
