Name of Victim in Last Week’s Fatal Auto Accident on Highway 9 Just Released

During the severe weather that struck Cherokee County last Thursday (March 25th), a 2014 Chevrolet collided with an 18-wheeler on Highway 9, just north of Cedar Bluff around 7:15pm, resulting in the death of a 66 year old male subject.

The victim has now been identified by Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald, as a resident of Cedar Bluff – Gary Adkins.  Another occupant in that vehicle was listed as  being hurt, and was transported for treatment of unspecified injuries.  That accident took place near County Road 51 in the Farill community. 

Responding members of the Gaylesville Fire Department, Cherokee County Rescue Squad personnel, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Cedar Bluff Police, Cherokee County EMA, Alabama State Troopers, Floyd EMS, the Alabama Department of Transportation and the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office also responded. Assistance was also provided by the Floyd County, Georgia Police who assisted with traffic at Highway 100 across the Stateline. 

According to witnesses wet road conditions as a result of the heavy rain likely played a role in the fatal crash.
