SPRING GARDEN – Jackson Maddox scattered four hits with nine strikeouts. He also had a hit at the plate to help the Spring Garden Panthers earn a 12-1 baseball win over Class 2A, Area 12 rival Gaston on Tuesday.
Luke Welsh had a pair of doubles, a walk and two RBIs for the Panthers (10-7, 2-2). Chapel Pope and Ryley Kirk both went 2-for-3. Chaz Pope, Kenneth Petty and Christian Simon all contributed a hit.
The two teams play again on Wednesday for the second game of the series.
