Haney homers, drives in four in Cedar Bluff softball win at Gaylesville

GAYLESVILLE – Emma Haney posted a pair of hits, including a home run. She scored twice and drove in four runs to help the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers earn a 13-2 softball win at Gaylesville in five innings on Tuesday.

Mattie Payne collected three hits, including a double, with two runs and two RBIs. Reece Patterson posted a pair of hits, including a double, with two runs and three RBIs. Haley Allen and Jordyn Walker both contributed a hit, two runs and a RBI. Caitlin Slayton added a hit and a walk. Mary Sausville walked and scored a run.

Walker earned the win in the circle. She allowed just one earned run in five innings on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Malaya Shireman suffered the loss for the Lady Trojans. She also led Gaylesville at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double. Charity Green had the other Lady Trojan hit. She also drove in a run. Chelsey Cagle walked and scored a run.

Both teams now prepare for the Cherokee County Tournament. Gaylesville is scheduled to open the tournament against host Cherokee County on Thursday at 4 p.m. Cedar Bluff takes on Sand Rock at 5:30 p.m.
