Sand Rock sweeps area baseball doubleheader from Gaston

SAND ROCK – Fifth-ranked Sand Rock swept a Class 2A, Area 12 baseball doubleheader from Gaston on Saturday. The scores were 9-2 and 5-4.

In the first game, Olin Pruitt picked up the win for the Wildcats (8-1). He tossed all seven innings, giving up just one earned run on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. Pruitt also had a hit, a walk and a run at the plate.

Cade Ballenger went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Logan Wood was 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Slade St. Clair had a hit, a walk, a run and a RBI. Brian Giles and Austin Yoder both had a hit, a walk and a run. Ethan Clanton and Jacob Cornejo both drove in a pair of runs. Clanton also walked. Bradley Jackson walked twice and scored a run.

In the second game, the Wildcats made the most of three hits, led by Cornejo’s triple. He also scored a run. Clanton contributed a hit and a run. Wood was 1-for-2 with a walk and a RBI. Giles scored a run and drove in another. Sloan Wood also had a RBI.

Giles picked up the win after working four innings. He surrendered just one earned run on a hit with a walk and three strikeouts. Jackson tossed the other three innings. He gave up an earned run on two hits with no walks and a strikeout.

Sand Rock is scheduled to host top-ranked Westbrook Christian on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
