CENTRE – The Cherokee County Warriors opened Class 4A, Area 9 baseball play with a bang Thursday afternoon. They pounded out a combined 22 hits and scored a combined 39 runs in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Anniston. The scores were 20-2 in four innings and 19-0 in three innings.
Connor Wilson set the tone in game one for the Warriors (8-7). He went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, a double, a walk, two runs and six RBIs. Cody Adderhold added a triple, two walks, two runs and three RBIs. Walker Pruett posted a pair of hits, a pair of runs and a RBI.
Haden Wheeler contributed a hit, three walks, three runs and a RBI. Brian Green collected a hit, a walk, three runs and a RBI. Tristan Whitefield had a hit, a walk and two runs. Cooper Rodgers came away with a hit, two walks, two runs and a RBI. Conner Harkins had a hit.
Malachi Horton walked and scored a run. Jackson Aultman drove in a run. Daegan Scott walked and Mason Kilgo scored a run.
Scott picked up the win after two innings of one-hit ball. He gave up two earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.
In game two, Wilson again went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Adderhold was also 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. Pruett went 2-for-2 with two runs and a RBI. Wheeler went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Whitefield was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, a run and a RBI. Green contributed a hit, a walk, two runs and a RBI.
Scott added a hit, two runs and a RBI. Rodgers had a hit. Horton scored twice and drove in two runs. Aultman walked twice and scored two runs.
Pruett picked up the win in two innings of work. He surrendered a hit and three walks with five strikeouts.
