“Significant” Severe Weather will be possible across ALL of Alabama Wednesday, and a small portion of the state has already been upgraded to the “High Risk” category for severe storms – that includes areas in Lamar, Pickens, Sumter and Greene counties – and smaller portions of Marion, Fayette and Tuscaloosa counties, it does NOT include the city of Tuscaloosa, however.
Much of the state including Cherokee and surrounding counties, is currently listed as being under a “Moderate Risk” which is a Level 4 out of 5 and means that widespread severe weather will be likely.
A “High Risk” is relatively rare – that Level 5 out of 5 and means “Widespread Severe Storms are expected.” That includes the possibility of strong, long-track tornadoes, a risk of damaging winds, along with heavy rainfall and possibly hail.
Forecasters stress that all of the state is under a risk for severe weather regardless of the category.
