WHITE PLAINS – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors manufactured a run in the top of the eighth inning, and pitcher Alana Loyd retired White Plains in the bottom half to secure a 4-3 Class 4A, Area 9 softball win on Monday.
After a weather delay, Abby Lea doubled to lead off the top of the eighth for the Lady Warriors (7-2). Lanie Williams then singled to right to score Lea for what proved to be the winning run.
Loyd retired the Lady Wildcats in order on a pop out, a ground out and ended the game with a strikeout. She went the distance in the circle, giving up three earned runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Williams and Loyd both went 2-for-4 with a RBI. Lea scored a run and drove in another. Carson Coley was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Anna Walker went 1-for-3. McKinley Rouss and Brylie McDaniel both scored a run.
Cherokee County is scheduled to play at Jacksonville on Thursday at 4 p.m.
