Floyd County Teen Charged with Vehicular Homicide

A Floyd County teenager has been charged with Vehicular Homicide, in connection to a fatal accident occurring last Friday (March 12th).

Ainsley Brianna Sutton, age 18 of Armuchee turned herself in at the Floyd County Jail just hours after allegedly causing an accident that resulted in the death of 19 year old Alexis Howell.  Sutton stands charged with Homicide by Vehicle 2nd Degree, Following too Closely – and Failure to Maintain Lane.

Howell was killed in a three vehicle accident Friday morning on US 27 at Cordle Road near Subway.  She was reportedly traveling southbound in a Honda Civic, with a Jeep Wrangler, driven by Sutton, beside her.

Police said that a vehicle in front of the Jeep slowed down to make a turn, causing the Jeep to swerve and strike Howell’s vehicle, causing it to travel into oncoming traffic – where she was struck by a northbound Nissan Altima, driven by Juan Vicente-Pelico.  Vicente-Pelico was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash is on-going; according to Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor, Howell died as the result of multiple blunt force injuries.
