Five Hurt in Fiery Floyd County Crash

Five people were injured in a fiery crash in Floyd County over the weekend.

That wreck occurred around 11:30 Saturday night on Highway 53, between Shannon Circle and Shannon Road.

According to Floyd County Police, a lookout had been issued for a wrong-way driver on 53 at Burlington Road with an Acura RDX reportedly traveling southbound in the inside northbound lane.

As officers were responding the call came in that the Acura had collided head-on into a northbound Ford F-150 occupied by four teenagers causing the pickup to burst into flames.  The driver and two passengers in the truck got out on their own, however an 18-year old female was trapped inside

Officer Blake Puckett with the Floyd County PD managed to cut the seat belt and then extricate the teen from the burning vehicle.  Police state charges are pending against the wrong-way driver, and alcohol was a factor in the incident.

The investigation is on-going.
