SAND ROCK – The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats breezed past Gaston 70-20 in the opening round of the Class 2A, Area 12 girls basketball tournament on Tuesday evening.

Katelyn St. Clair led the Lady Wildcats (16-11) with 14 points, including a 5-of-5 performance from the free-throw line. She also had three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.

Lanie Henderson rang for 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. She also had 10 rebounds and a pair of steals.

McKenna Ballenger also had 12 points (4-of-4 from the free-throw line), five rebounds, five steals and an assist. Arleigh Beard netted nine points and grabbed four rebounds. Haley Grace Lisenbee came away with six points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals. Cheyanne Fuqua finished with six points, four steals, two rebounds and an assist.

Sand Rock travels to top-ranked Spring Garden for the area championship game on Friday at 6 p.m.
