County Commission Prepares to Sign Closing on First Baptist Church Property Tuesday

Cherokee County Commission members, during their Monday morning meeting, authorized the Chairman to sign “closing documents”, and “other necessary documents”, relating to the First Baptist Church property closing.

Last November the Commission and Church struck a bargain for purchasing the property at a cost of $150,000 – at that time, Commission Chairman/Probate Judge Tim Burgess told us what the county planned to do:

The signing is scheduled for Tuesday morning (February 9th) at 11:00 – in the Commission meeting room in the County Administration Building.  He added that the time frame for that project could be between three and five years.  The Commission also approved amending a job description for the position of Emergency Management/Homeland Security Officer, and extend the EMA job application period through March 5th, 2021.

Additionally, the Commission voted to amend the county’s Animal Shelter Policy to include a “rescue fee” for adult dogs in the amount of $125 and a puppy “rescue fee” set at $25.

In other business, Micah Hight was appointed to the Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Board to fill an unexpired term ending in January 2024 Dr. John Holbrook was appointed to the Cherokee County Public Library Board to fill a four year term ending in February 2025  Also the Commission re-appointed Josh Summerford and Matt Teal  to the Cherokee County Communications District Board with those being four years terms ending in January, 2025.  An appointment to the Cherokee County Water and Sewer Board will be announced during the next meeting of the Commission.

And, two vehicles from the Sheriff’s Office were declared surplus and will be sold at the next available public auction, and those vehicles are a 2019 Chevy Silverado and a 2002 Ford Excursion XLT.
