CENTRE – Cherokee County High School held its basketball senior night on Thursday evening, and the upperclassmen led both Warrior teams to victories over Southside.
In the girls game, senior shooting guard Karlee Perry sank seven 3-pointers and finished with 23 points in the Lady Warriors’ 68-54 win.
Audrey Green added 13 points and Mary Hayes Johnson tossed in 12 for the No. 10 Lady Warriors (20-5). Sidney Johnson came away with nine points, and Grayson Tucker finished with six points.
Lexy Cline led the Lady Panthers with 12 points. Lynnsey Hunt had nine points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Cherokee County jumped out to an 18-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Southside managed to cut its deficit to 30-23 at halftime, but a 26-10 Lady Warrior run in the third put the game out of reach.
In boys action, senior guard Connor Elrod rang for 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and senior forward Nas Diamond delivered 14 points in the Warriors’ 60-52 victory.
Elrod and Diamond also grabbed seven and eight rebounds respectively for the Warriors (10-14). Malachi Horton scored eight points. Jack Amos and Braden Chandler both finished with five points.
The Warriors trailed 17-12 at the end of the first quarter, but tied things up at 27 heading into halftime. Cherokee County surged out in front 45-38 by the end of the third quarter.
Both Cherokee County squads travel to Coosa, Ga. on Friday.
