Search Resumes at Little River Canyon for Missing Centre Woman

The search continues for a Cherokee County woman who went missing during Christmas

According to a statement posted on the Ft Payne Police Department Facebook page, Yvonne Wood Covington of Centre had been in the Ft Payne area visiting with family members over the holidays, and was last seen on Saturday, December 26th.

The vehicle that she had been driving was found later that same night, by the National Park Service on the Cherokee County side of the Highway 35 Bridge.

Search & Rescue teams spent several hours on Monday (February 1st, 2021), at Little River Canyon National Preserve searching nearby woods and along the river banks using cadaver dogs in an effort to locate Ms. Covington.  Reportedly, she hasn’t contacted loved ones since the date of her disappearance.

Ft Payne Police say at this point they’re not sure if Covington left of her own free will, and is not actually in the area at all or if something happened to her and she has died in the woods or water at Little River Canyon.

Anyone with any information on Ms. Covington’s location, should contact Ft Payne Police at (256) 845-1414.

That investigation is being headed up by the Ft Payne PD with assistance being provided by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
