Liars lie, cheaters cheat and scammers – scam.
It’s just what they do. One Cherokee County resident recently received a call from someone claiming to be with the FBI – in this case that stands for Fraud By Intent – asking for private information such as their social security number, banking info and other personal not-to-be shared details.
That citizen did the smart thing; they sought help from the right person – Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, who informed the resident that it was, indeed and without a doubt – just another scam.
The intended victim told the sheriff that the caller claimed to be with the Federal Bureau of investigation – and even sent a photo with his “official” badge and ID – all fake of course. Let’s face it, this kind of “ID” can be bought on-line through a VARIETY of sources and social media outlets.
It’s a lot like the good ol’ days when you could get a similar form of identification – from a gumball machine or perhaps a box of Cracker Jacks.
Sheriff Shaver informed the local resident to simply hang up the phone, and have NO MORE contact with the scammer.
