Warriors sweep Class 4A, Area 10 basketball opponent Ashville

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Warrior basketball teams swept Class 4A, Area 10 opponent Ashville on Friday night. The Warrior boys earned a 67-48 victory, while the Lady Warriors prevailed 68-34.

In the boys game, Nas Diamond netted 18 points, including a 7-of-10 free-throw performance, to lead the Warriors (9-10, 3-1). Connor Elrod connected on three 3-pointers and came away with 17 points. Malachi Horton had seven points. Jack Amos, Jaden Wilson and Braden Chandler finished with five points each.

Aston Vann led the Bulldogs with 18 points, including three treys. Adriane Hernandez added seven points. Caleb Bailey contributed six points and Elijah Turner finished with five points.

The Warriors held a 13-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Ashville cut their lead to a point at 25-24 at halftime. Cherokee County outscored Ashville 19-12 in the third quarter to take a 44-36 edge.

In the girls game, Mary Hayes Johnson topped the Lady Warriors (15-4, 4-0) with 15 points. Audrey Green added 12 points, including a pair of treys. Sidney Johnson also connected on a pair of 3-pointers and had 10 points. Karlee Perry provided seven points. Audrey Haygood and Carson Coley both contributed six points apiece.

The Lady Warriors built an 18-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 37-23 at halftime. Cherokee County led 55-32 at the end of three quarters.

Kadie Kennedy and Ryleigh Waid led the Lady Bulldogs with nine points apiece. Carley Thomason and Sera Potter both finished with six points.
