Alabama added 3,147 new COVID-19 cases going from Tuesday into Wednesday.

The Alabama Department of Public Health data issued on Wednesday morning showed that the state has now recorded 410,995 cases of coronavirus.  There are currently 3,076 people hospitalized with the virus in Alabama.  The state also added 187 deaths to bring that total to 5,760.  

Those high numbers come after a review of a large number of deaths from ADPH’s Alabama Center for Health Statistics.  The reviews have now been completed on about two-thirds of the deaths listed and the process is expected to continue a few more weeks.  The ADPH said the remaining reviews may “result in additional death numbers – which are historic and do not reflect recent mortality due to COVID-19,”

Here in Cherokee County, according to the ADPH, we’ve now seen a total of 1,569 cases of COVID-19 since March 13th of last year – 1,033 confirmed, 536 listed as probable.  Countywide we’ve had a total of 29 deaths – with 24 confirmed as being COVID-related, and 5 listed as probable.
