Man Charged with Murder and Kidnapping Following Events of Monday

A 31 year old man is behind bars in Etowah County – charged with Murder and Kidnapping.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade says a woman ran into a convenience store Monday morning, claiming she’d been kidnapped; Sheriff Wade stated that 9-1-1 received the call at around 10:30, and when law enforcement responded to the scene at the intersection of U.S. 431 and Alabama Highway 204, the woman said her boyfriend had been killed in Gadsden – and she had been abducted by the armed gunman.

When the man pulled into the convenience store in the Wellington community to put gas in the vehicle, the victim jumped out and ran inside saying that she needed help as the suspect fled east, heading toward Jacksonville.

Shortly thereafter Jacksonville Police received a report of a stolen Jeep taken from Edwards Grocery and a BOLO was issued – approximately a half-hour later Calhoun County Deputies spotted the Jeep and gave pursuit.  That chase came to an end at the intersection of 411 and Alabama Highway 21, when the suspect turned in front of another vehicle and crashed.

The driver bailed out and attempted to carjack a passing motorist but was unsuccessful – at that point, Terry Lee Moore was taken into custody and taken to jail.

The Gadsden Times reported that the murder the woman spoke of took place at a facility on East Broad Street known as the Empowerment Center, which helps the homeless and those who may’ve been released from prison recently, transition back into society.  Police arrived to find a male subject deceased; however the name has yet to be released and no details are being released regarding the events surrounding the death.

Moore is currently being held without bond in the Etowah County jail, charged with Murder
