Virginia Ann Miller Garmon

Virginia Ann Miller Garmon, daughter of the late Gordon Luther Miller and Carrie Roberts Leath Miller, died on Jan. 4, 2021 at Lynchburg General.

Ms. Garmon was born on July 20, 1926 in Taff, Alabama where she spent her childhood on a cotton farm. Following high school graduation at Gaylesville High School, she entered the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama where she graduated in 1947. She later received a Master of Business Education from James Madison University.

Ms. Garmon began her teaching career in the business department of George Washington High School in Danville. When she retired in 1997, volunteering became her passion at First Baptist Church, Danville, where she taught Sunday school for all 47 years. She also volunteered at Roman Eagle Nursing Home, and the Wednesday Club. In 2015 Ms. Garmon moved to Halifax to be near her son, Clayton, and family. She was an associate member of Beth Car Baptist Church and a member and officer of the Halifax Woman’s Club.

She is survived by her two sons, William Sewell Garmon II, (Pam) of Castle Hayne, North Carolina and Clayton Taff Miller Garmon (Sheila) of Halifax; her grandchildren, William Sewell Garmon III (Katie), Joanne Merceile Garmon and Luke David Garmon; and a special friend and first cousin Peggy Eady of Birmingham, Alabama.

A private service will be Jan. 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Beth Car Baptist Church and will be live cast via Beth Car’s Facebook page. Burial will follow in Clover Cemetery.
