William “Bill” Floyd Memorial Toys for Tots Bubba Golf Tournament held on Saturday

CENTRE – Twenty-six players participated in the William “Bill” Floyd Memorial Toys for Tots Bubba Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Cherokee County Country Club in Centre.

In the championship flight, Tim Hill topped the field after shooting 63. Kurt Duryea and Robin Wood both finished at 65.

Dewayne Sprayberry, Trevor McCarley and Stan McCarely all shot 67 in the First Flight. Sprayberry claimed the win on a No. 5 playoff hole tiebreaker

Benton Burge and Casey Harmon tied atop the Second Flight at 70, with Burge winning on a playoff hole at No. 5. Ross Johnson finished a stroke behind at 71.

The holiday tournament is held annually in honor of William E. “Bill” Floyd, who passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011.

Floyd and his wife Karen were members of the Cherokee County Country Club in Centre and ardent supporters of the Toys for Tots campaign. His connection with the Toys for Tots program began through his association with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Floyd joined the United States Marine Corps at a young age. He served in Korea at the Chosin Reservoir and the DMZ, and also completed two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Marine Corps with 22-plus years.

Following his retirement, Floyd spent over twenty years as a Deputy U.S. Marshal.

Supporting Toys for Tots was his passion. His concern and commitment to civic causes continued until his passing.
