Spring Garden girls, boys down Gaston in area basketball action

GADSDEN – The Spring Garden girls and boys basketball teams swept Gaston in Class 2A, Area 12 basketball action on Friday night. The Lady Panthers posted an 89-14 victory, while the Panther boys took an 88-47 decision in the nightcap.

In the girls game, Ace Austin netted 24 points, including six 3-pointers. She also had 12 rebounds, nine assists, seven steals and four blocks. Bri Boles also sank six treys and had 18 points. She also blocked two shots, had a steal and an assist.

Neely Welsh tossed in 18 points to go along with six boards, five steals, four assists and four blocks. Sarah Kate McKay managed 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks. Lexie Adkison added 11 points, seven boards and a pair of steals. Abbie Woods finished with five points, three assists, a rebound, a steal and a block.

In the boys game, Weston Kirk connected on three 3-pointers and had 23 points to lead the Panthers. He also grabbed four rebounds, had two steals, two assists and a blocked shot.

Andrew Floyd added 13 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Chaz Pope posted 12 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, five assists and a block.

Luke Welsh contributed eight points, four rebounds and a block. Cooper Austin collected eight points, six rebounds, five steals, four assists. Ryley Kirk had eight points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist. Cam Welsh delivered seven points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist. D’Angelo Wright finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

Spring Garden plays at Glencoe on Saturday.
