Northeast Orthopedic Sports Clinic & Physical Therapy Opens New, Larger Location in Centre

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce held the Official Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Northeast Orthopedic Sports Clinic & Physical Therapy on Thursday morning.

Northeast Orthopedic is now open in their new, expanded facility, at 1925 West Main Street in Centre offering a wide variety of services with a larger staff to serve you better – and one of the many friendly faces you’ll see is a young lady who has earned her doctorate degree in physical therapy, and is something of a hometown hero when it comes to high school sports – Kaitlyn Griffith Revette.

During Thursday’s event, we spoke with Kaitlyn, who informed us that Northeast Orthpedic is, to a large degree, the only provider you’ll ever need in the field:

Kaitlyn was inducted into the Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 and was a three sport athlete – primarily known as an outstanding hitter for the Lady Warrior softball team as she helped to lead Cherokee County High School to six County Championships, five Area Championships, three Region Championships and a Class 4A state runner-up finish, and she is one of only three softball players to have her high school number retired.

Kaitlyn went on to play softball at the University of South Alabama – where she was chosen in 2015 as the Sunbelt Conference’s Most Outstanding Player.

Over the course of that amazing career she did fail prey to some sports-related injuries, and as a result, had to undergo two different knee surgeries, and enter into physical therapy – it was during that time, she decided that THAT would be the career for her.

As a result of the excellent care she’d received, she knew she wanted to give that same level of care and compassion to others undergoing the same ordeal.

She invited everyone to visit them at their new larger location in Cherokee County and take a tour of the facility.

Northeast Orthopedics is a full-service orthopedic care provider serving Northeast Alabama since 1986. Through continuing education and training, our board certified orthopedic surgeons employ the latest advances in orthopedic care, including total joint replacement, hip and knee replacement, spine, and sports medicine. We are committed to giving our patients the best orthopedic care available. Northeast Orthopedics has on site X-ray, MRI, and physical therapy for the convenience of our patients.

Orthopedics is a medical specialty that deals with injuries and conditions of your bones and muscles. Orthopedic specialists can help you with anything from an ankle sprain to a fracture or ACL tear, with treatment options ranging from simple splints to orthotics, physical therapy, and surgery.

The body is a complex machine with a lot of moving parts and critical connections, like your tendons and joints. Everything works together to help you move and function. If any one part is injured or disabled, your entire body can suffer, with anything from pain and swelling to loss of mobility.

Our job at Northeast Orthopedics is to help you keep your body in good working order. We help patients who have a wide range of orthopedic related injuries and conditions, including (but not limited to) the following areas of your body:

  • Neck
  • Shoulder
  • Elbow
  • Wrist
  • Hand
  • Back and Spine
  • Hips
  • Knees
  • Foot and ankle

How Orthopedic Care Works

Orthopedic care helps you by giving you a path forward to recovering from an injury or medical condition with your bones and muscles.

At the beginning of our relationship with you, the NEO orthopedic surgeons and specialists will meet with you to get a full case history: what happened; what hurts; and what you’ve been through as a result of the condition. We’ll then evaluate you through a full suite of diagnostic tools and procedures. This tells us what’s wrong with your body and what needs to be done in order to fix it.

After we examine you, we’ll give you a diagnosis and then a recommended course of treatment. This treatment could be anything from a splint or orthotic device to physical therapy or surgery – or could be just a bit of rest from physical activity for a certain period of time.

Choosing an Orthopedic Surgeon

No matter what the treatment may be, our orthopedic surgeons and staff will treat you with care and respect, as if you were a part of our own families. That’s why our patients constantly give us high marks: our dedication to creating a relationship with our patients is something they deeply appreciate.

One of the best ways to stay healthy and have a high quality of life is to stay active, whether you’re walking every day, participating in a fitness program, or playing a sport.

Unfortunately, being active can take its toll on the body. Injuries and health problems in general can happen, and when they do, you may need care from a sports medicine specialist

What Is Sports Medicine?

Sports medicine focuses on both preventing and treating any health-related issues – such as injuries – that happen as a result of being active.

These issues can range from mild to severe, and can include:

  • Sprains
  • Joint damage
  • Tissue/ligament tears
  • Stress fractures
  • Muscle pulls
  • Shin splints
  • Dislocations

Many of these injuries are common enough to have names of their own. For example, lateral epicondylitis – an inflammation of the tendons that join your forearm muscles to your arm bones via the outside of your elbow – is more popularly known as tennis elbow and results from overuse. Golfer’s elbow is very similar, except that it occurs on the inside of your elbow.

Common Symptoms of Sports Injuries

When should you see a sports medicine specialist? What symptoms are good indicators that you need to talk to a physician?

Generally, you should see a doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms after being active:

  • Sharp, stabbing pain in your bones
  • A burning sensation in your muscles
  • Pain, stiffness, and swelling in your muscles and joints
  • Difficulty walking or moving
  • Loss of range of motion in a limb or extremity
  • Having a hard time putting all your weight on your leg, knee, or foot
  • Significant tenderness in an extremity

How Sports Medicine Specialists Help

When you have a sports-related injury, you need care from a physician who understands the unique nature of these types of injuries.

Sports medicine physicians can help by diagnosing the injury and outlining a course of treatment. This could range from temporary orthotics and physical therapy to more significant measures like surgery and rehabilitation. What is needed will be determined by what the doctor finds during the examination.

Many common ailments and injuries can be helped with treating the symptoms and ensuring that you give the affected body part enough rest. Sometimes injured bones, tendons, and muscles will heal on their own, given enough time. Your doctor will give you recommendations about how you can let your body heal and take care of your injury, and approximately how long that will take.

If you need more options, your doctor will help you determine the best, safest course of action. For more serious injuries, surgery is the recommended step.

Northeast Orthopedics has sports medicine specialists in Gadsden, Centre and Boaz that are available to help you recover and get back out there, being active and doing what you love.  Contact us to learn more and schedule an appointment.
