Winter weather is back.

The cold front bringing rain and storms to the state today (on Monday) – is bringing with it plunging temperatures with lows not seen since last winter. 

North and north-central parts of the state could well be in for a few flurries but without any accumulation. Monday and Tuesday nights will see lows in the lower-20’s.

Lows Monday night into Tuesday morning will range from the mid-20s in north and central Alabama to the low-30’s all the way into south Alabama and Tuesday night into Wednesday morning could even be a degree or two colder in north and central Alabama.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for southwest Alabama that’ll be in effect from 10:00pm Monday through 8:00am Tuesday.  Forecasters said temperatures will dip into the upper-20’s inland and will bottom out near freezing at the coast.

Temperatures are expected to moderate slightly across the state later in the week – but will still be a big departure from last week – when Alabama had several days of highs in the 70’s and 80’s.  Highs this week will top out in the 50’s and 60’s with more chilly nights expected.

The next chance for rain will arrive later in the week.
