Drunk Driver Nearly Collides With Chattooga County Deputy

A drunk driver that nearly hit a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office Deputy head-on over the weekend landed in jail on charges of DUI along with outstanding warrants.  The man was driving on Highway 48 near Menlo when he swerved over the center lane and into the path of Deputy Corey Fielding, who managed to avoid a collision – and then quickly initiated a traffic stop.

Sixty-one year old Billy Jack Mitchell, listed as being a resident of Alabama, was found to be driving with a suspended or revoked license and over the legal limit for alcohol; he also had outstanding warrants from the City of Summerville Police Department for DUI, along with a number of associated charges.

Mitchell was booked into the Chattooga County Jail shortly after 11:00pm Saturday.
