Piedmont moves up to No. 2 in final ASWA football poll

Coming off an impressive 27-23 victory at Class 5A Alexandria on Friday, the Piedmont Bulldogs moved up a spot to No. 2 in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association high school football rankings. The latest poll was released late Tuesday evening.


Class 3A Piedmont (9-1) received a first-place vote. Top-ranked Fyffe (10-0) received the other 20. The Bulldogs host Colbert Heights (5-5) to open the state playoffs on Friday.


Class 2A Spring Garden (9-1) remained at No. 4 following its 51-13 win over Wadley on Friday. The Panthers host Tanner (6-4) in their playoff opener on Friday.


Other area playoff action on Friday night includes Class 1A Cedar Bluff (6-4) hosting Hubbertville (7-2), and Class 4A Cherokee County (7-3) traveling to fourth-ranked Mobile Christian (8-1). All playoff games kick off at 7 p.m.
