Piedmont, Spring Garden jump two spots in latest ASWA football rankings

The Piedmont Bulldogs and Spring Garden Panthers both moved up two spots in their respective classes in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association high school football rankings. The latest poll was released late Tuesday evening.

Piedmont, coming off a last-minute 27-21 victory over previously-unbeaten Wellborn, climbed up to No. 3 in the Class 3A rankings. The Bulldogs (8-1) clinched their sixth straight region championship with the win and will close out the regular season this Friday at Class 5A, No. 6 Alexandria (9-0). Piedmont will then host an as-yet-determined opponent in the first round of the state playoffs on Nov. 6.

Class 2A Spring Garden (8-1) is ranked fourth following its 40-22 non-counting victory at Class 4A West Morgan on Friday. The Panthers close out the regular season this Friday against Class 1A Wadley (3-6) before hosting Tanner (5-4) in the first round of the state playoffs on Nov. 6.
