County Commission Agrees To Execute Sales Contract For First Baptist Church Property

The Cherokee County Commission held a special called meeting on Thursday for the sole purpose of holding an Executive Session.

Chairman Tim Burgess called the meeting to order and then Commissioners immediately went behind closed doors with County Attorney Bill Hawkins to discuss the potential sale/purchase of property.

Following several minutes of deliberations the Commission returned and upon a motion made by Commissioner Marcie Foster, the commission has granted permission to Burgess to execute a sales contract with First Baptist Church of Centre for property located at 374 East Main Street in Centre in the amount of $150,000. If the offer is accepted, the church will be allowed to remove any and all items that want from the property within 90 days of acceptance.

On Thursday afternoon we spoke to the Pastor of First Baptist Church, Eddie Nation.

We will update this story as additional information is available.

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission will be Monday, October 26th at 5:00 p.m.
