Rome Man Arrested After Fleeing From Police And Crashing

A Rome man was arrested Saturday after allegedly fleeing from police, eventually wrecking his vehicle.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 27-year old Joseph William Wells Tapp of a Cherry Street address accelerated to over 95 miles per hour in an attempt to elude police on Maple at East Mahan.

He reportedly passed other vehicles by traveling into the oncoming lane across the double yellow lines.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a fixed object on Park Avenue.

Tapp is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, obstruction of officers, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, passing in a no passing zone, driving without a license, driving without insurance, and unregistered vehicle.
