Staff Reports
The Piedmont Bulldogs (5-0) and Spring Garden Panthers (4-0) continued to hold their spots in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association high school football rankings. The latest poll was released late Tuesday evening.
Piedmont remains atop the Class 3A rankings after receiving all 23 first-place votes. The Bulldogs were scheduled to host Class 4A, No. 7 Jacksonville (4-2) for homecoming this Friday, but the Golden Eagles have forfeited the game due to COVID-19 concerns. It’s the second straight week an opponent has cancelled its game with Piedmont. Region 5 rival Weaver forfeited last Friday’s game for the same reason.
Meanwhile, Spring Garden holds steady at No. 6 following an impressive 34-14 win over Cleveland. The Panthers travel to Class 3A Hokes Bluff (2-2) this Friday in a first-ever meeting between the two schools. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
