18-Wheeler Crash Wednesday Morning at “Joe’s Truck Stop” in Ft Payne

An accident involving an 18-wheeler occurred on Highway 35 in DeKalb County during the early morning of Wednesday.

According to Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum the accident occurred at at 5:40 a.m. when a transfer truck and trailer overturned at Joe’s Truck Stop at the corner of 5Th Street NE and Wallace Ave NE.

Upon officer’s arrival, the truck and box trailer were on its side. Rescue personnel from Fort Payne Fire arrived and extracted the driver, Devin Lamar Morgan, of Austell, Georgia.  Mr. Morgan was alert and talking as he was removed from the vehicle and transported to Gadsden Regional Hospital by Dekalb Ambulance Service. 

An Investigation into the wreck continues, but it appears that the truck might have been traveling to fast at the curve as he attempted to make the right turn at the bottom and his load shifted and overturned. 

Chief Bynum stated those assisting Fort Payne Police and Fire were Fort Payne Public Works, Dekalb Ambulance Service, EMA, and Fort Payne Sanitation.
