The number of new confirmed COIVID-19 cases rose by more than 1,000 from Tuesday into Wednesday; that, due in part to a delay which resulted in some numbers rolling over a day.

The Alabama Department of Public Health numbers issued on Wednesday showed a total of 112,126 COVID-19 cases in the state, a jump of 1,172 from the day before.

The ADPH said several labs had connectivity issues – resulting in a one-day case increase of 185 and pushing some results to today.  Alabama has thus far had 1,965 COVID-19 deaths – that’s an increase of a half-dozen from the day before.

Cherokee County has so far seen a total of 331 confirmed cases with another 52 being listed as “probable” with nine deaths now being attributed to the illness; one other being listed as “probable” in that category

Out of the 583 tests being administered locally over the past 14 days there were 53 positive results.

Numbers in neighboring counties are as follows:

Calhoun – 2,215 confirmed cases with 25 deaths;

Cleburne – 191 confirmed cases with 4 deaths;

DeKalb – 2,010 confirmed cases with 14 deaths;

Etowah – 2,568 confirmed cases with 37 deaths.
