Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver Promotes/Hires New Deputies

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office recently swore in and promoted a number of new deputies.

Deputy Logan Moore was sworn-in on August 3rd. Moore has worked in the Cherokee County Detention Center for 3 years prior to working for the Floyd County Police Department. Because he is certified as an officer in Georgia he was laterally transferred for Alabama Credentials in a two week academy.

Deputy Robert Carrington is retired from the U.S. Army and was also sworn-in on August 3rd. Carrington previously worked for the Floyd County Police Department. Because he is certified as an officer in Georgia he was laterally transferred for Alabama Credentials in a two week academy.

Deputy Annette Durham was promoted from a Corrections Officer and was sworn-in on August 21st. Deputy Durham will be taking over front office duties and will start the academy in January.

Deputy Jonah Smith was sworn-in on August 21st after being promoted from Corrections Officer. Deputy Smith will begin the academy in September. He is a graduate of Spring Garden High School.

Deputy Daniel Holcomb graduated from the Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff Academy on July, 25th. Prior he served as a Corrections Officer at the Cherokee County Detention Center for 3 years.

Deputies Smith, Moore, Holcomb and Carrington will be assigned to patrol filling positions left vacant by deputies transferring to School Resource Officers.

Deputy Tom Key (pictured right) has been promoted to Patrol Sergeant. Sheriff Jeff Shaver stated that “Sgt. Key is a very hard working, dedicated deputy. This promotion is much deserved.”

Sgt. Key is a former Marine and previously worked with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office before coming to Cherokee County in 2016.

Sheriff Shaver said “We are excited to be able to hire and promote these new deputies so that we can continue to build our SRO program.”

Chief Deputy Josh Summerford said “The Sheriff’s Office and Cherokee County is fortunate to be able to recruit these new deputies. All of them are quality people that make great additions to our team.”
