The name of the inmate that died Sunday at the Piedmont City Jail has now been released.
The inmate, now identified as 30 year old John Wayne Snider of Piedmont – was found that morning at 11:05 – unresponsive – in his cell.
Piedmont police officers immediately began CPR and notified the Piedmont Rescue Squad – rescue squad members quickly arrived and determined that Snider was deceased. According to Piedmont Police Chief Freddie Norton the incident is being investigated by the Calhoun County Coroner’s Office and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
It is standard procedure for an outside agency to be brought in to conduct the investigation, in the wake of an inmate death.
