An inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the Piedmont City Jail on Sunday morning. 

Piedmont Police Chief Freddie Norton said that officers found the 30 year old man at 11:05 a.m.. Officers began CPR and notified Piedmont Rescue Squad. Piedmont Rescue arrived and determined that the inmate was deceased, his name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Cherokee County Sheriffs Office and the Calhoun County Coroners Office are investigating the death.

No additional information is being released at this time.
