A $400 boost to unemployment payments was part of President Trump’s recent “Executive Order”; now, the question is – when will that go into effect.
The unemployment benefits officially called the “Assistance Program for Lost Wages,” – will provide the extra funds each week to those unemployed individuals deemed eligible; and of that $400, $300 would come from the federal government while $100 would come from the state.
Those benefits would come on top of money paid already paid by the state – that’s $275 per week in Alabama.
Trump’s Executive Order stipulates the benefits are retroactive to August 1st – however, no guidance from the states has yet been issued – meaning exactly when beneficiaries will see the increased payments remains to be seen.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said in a recent briefing, each state would be required to make changes to their unemployment insurance systems, and that can take time – he added “Within the next week or two, most of the states will be able to execute,”
The $400 increased benefit is set to expire no later than December 6th of this year (2020).
