Several Arrested in Ft Payne; Drugs Designed to Look Like Candy Seized During Search

DeKalb County Narcotics Agents and Deputies – along with members of the Ft Payne Police Department executed a search warrant in the 1900 block of Godfrey Avenue at around 5:00 Monday afternoon.

The search resulted in the discovery and seizure of a large amount of marijuana, marijuana wax, marijuana edibles packaged as candy, drug paraphernalia, and currency believed to be proceeds from the illicit sale of narcotics.

The marijuana edibles were packaged and had names similar to popular children’s candy – such as Sour Patch Kids and Nerd’s Ropes, which can be easily mistaken for normal candy.

James Louis Race III, age 48; William King, age 31; Robert Junge, 55; and Jonathan Barrow, age 42 – all of Ft Payne were charged with the Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

James Louis Race III received an additional charge of Resisting Arrest.

Earlier that day law enforcement officials conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the middle of the roadway on County Road 1000 near Hammondville.

The vehicle was occupied by four Hispanic males who appeared to be intoxicated with open containers of alcohol present.  Two of the occupants of the vehicle were juveniles.

The two adults, Daniel Segura, 19 of Valley Head, and Homero Segura, age 20, also of Valley Head, were taken into custody.  Daniel Segura was charged with the Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree and the Possession of Drug Paraphernalia meanwhile Homero Segura was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and the Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The stop ultimately led to a search warrant being served later that same day, at the Godfrey Avenue location, which resulted in four additional arrests being made.
