The USDA announced last week they would be handing out FREE boxes of food in Cherokee County on Wednesday of this week, between the hours of 9:00 and 11:00.
The response was simply OVERWHELMING with vehicles lined up in two rows approaching the giveaway site headquartered at the Sports Complex behind the Gadsden State Cherokee campus in Centre. That line wrapped around both sides of the college, then down the street – requiring the assistance of law enforcement vehicles to guide traffic.
The operation went very smoothly with a large group of volunteers quickly distributing the boxes of food in two tightly organized drive-thru lanes.
