Qualifying for the upcoming Municipal Elections on August 25th ended at 5:00pm Tuesday and a large number of candidates have tossed their hat in the ring for public office this time around in Cherokee County.
In the City of Centre there are three candidates seeking the position of mayor; those include William ‘Bubba’ Johnston and Mark Powell Mansfield – along with current councilmember, Cedric Williams. Earlier in the month current mayor Tony Wilkie announced that he would not be seeking a fourth term, following his 12 years of service.
For Centre City Council those qualifying include – Glenn Chandler, Don Cothran, Kay Davis, Greg Higgins, Jay Howell, Frankie Kelly, Harry Moon, Toby Pace, Phillip Roberts, Billy Pruitt and Bess Yarbrough.
In the Town of Cedar Bluff the mayor’s race has a full slate of candidates – including current mayor Tammy Crane, Roger Griffith, Vermelle Bonfanti and Teanna Cannon.
For Cedar Bluff Town Council:
District 1 – Tim Miller, Eugene Mann and Justin Herrin
District 2 – Tommy Maxwell and Anna Grace
District 3 – Bobbie Hicks, Jeff Smith and Jack Bond
District 4 – Angela Ritchie and Tom Sweet
District 5 – Current Councilwoman Leatha Harp
And in the Town of Leesburg, current Mayor Brandy Pierce will serve another term, as he is unopposed.
For Leesburg Town Council:
Place 1 – Frankie Brewster
Place 2 – Joe Sonaty
Place 3 – Jimmy Tillery
Place 4 – Wayne Byram
Place 5 – Melissa Rodriguez and Jeremy Lee
In the Town of Gaylesville, Mayor Elizabeth Stafford is running unopposed.
For Gaylesville Town Council:
Place 1 – Daniel Steele, Rickey Wheeling
Place 2 – Tommy Storey
Place 3 – Gay Van Pelt
Place 4 – David Hanks, Jean Watwood
Place 5 – April Givens
And in the Town of Sand Rock all candidates are running unopposed, including Mayor Gene Farmer
On the Sand Rock Town Council:
Place 1 – Brody Moses
Place 2 – Julia C. Smith
Place 3 – Jonathan Cash
Place 4 – Greg Oliver
Place 5 – currently vacant
