Republican Primary Run-Off Election Set For Tuesday

Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday to vote in the Republican Primary Run-Off Election. The election was originally set to take place back on March 31 but was moved to July due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Voters in Cherokee County will decide who the next Superintendent of Education will be. Current Spring Garden Principal Mike Welsh will face Sand Rock native Andrew ‘Andy’ Jones for the position.

Other races on the ballot include U.S. Senator where former Senator and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is opposed by former Auburn University Head Football Coach Tommy Tubberville. In the race for Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Place #2, it will be Beth Kellum facing Will Smith.

Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and WEIS News will have complete election results as soon as the last vote is counted.

Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers reminds you that as you head to your polling place on Tuesday, remember the importance of wearing a mask while there – this is not only to protect you, but to protect those around you. Also, make sure you follow the six-foot social distancing requirement while at your polling place.
