Cherokee County Sees Spike in Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

Cherokee County has seen a spike in confirmed COVID-19 cases recently – with a total of 50 coming in just the past 14 days; that, out of 305 people being tested.  According to the state COVID-19 Data & Surveillance Dashboard posted on our news site, Cherokee County is now rated as “High” in the 14 Day Confirmed Rate category.  The county has now seen 111 confirmed cases and three more labeled as “probable”, with 7 deaths being attributed to the illness locally.

Statewide 3, 006 individuals have been hospitalized since March 13th.

Alabama has thus far had 46,424 confirmed cases resulting in 1,032 deaths.  The number of presumed recoveries now stands at 25,783.

The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed nearly 15,000 new cases over the last two weeks.  Jefferson County was at the top of the list, adding 2,500; Mobile County had the second highest case count at 1,151.

The second smallest county in Alabama, that of Perry – added 83 new cases over the last 14 days; Its rate of 93 new cases per 10,000 residents is highest in the state – while Escambia County, located in south Alabama on the Florida border, had the second highest rate of new cases in Alabama at 71.8 new cases per 10,000 people and Marshall County, in northeast Alabama, was third with a rate of 65.4 new cases per 10,000 people.

Cherokee County has two locations offering testing – the County Health Department, at 877 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre, and Main Street Urgent Care, 1925 West Main Street in Centre.

There will also be a FREE COVID-19 Drive-thru Testing Site this Friday (July 10th) between the hours of 8:00am and 12:00 noon at Wellborn Elementary School in Calhoun County; the address is 525 Cooper Circle in Anniston.  That will be FREE while supplies last.
