One person was injured and had to be extricated from the vehicle following a single vehicle accident on County Road 31 near John’s Crossroads on Monday around 3:20pm

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the vehicle, a 2019 GMC pickup, struck a power pole and rolled multiple times trapping the driver, a male resident of Centre, inside.  The pole and lines were knocked across the roadway as a result of the accident.

Crews from the Spring Creek Fire Department, Floyd EMS, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama State Troopers all responded to the scene.  The victim was transported by EMS ground units to a Rome area hospital for the treatment of what was described as “critical” injuries.

The road was shut down for an extended period of time as Cherokee Electric crews worked to replace and reset the power pole and lines.

That wreck remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
