Piedmont Man Charged With Shooting Into A Vehicle Occupied By A Piedmont City Councilman

A Piedmont man was arrested after he shot into a vehicle occupied by a Piedmont City Councilman.

According to a report by the Anniston Star, Calhoun County deputies charged 47 year old Elbert Brent Griffin with 1st Degree Assault and Shooting Into an Occupied Vehicle, both Class B Felonies.

Sheriff Matthew Wade said that Councilman Ben Keller and Griffin had a dispute over an unpaid debt and when Keller and another man went to Griffin’s home in Piedmont to ask about the debt that’s when an altercation occurred.

When Griffin asked the men to leave, Keller refused and Griffin fired a shot into his truck, striking his companion in the shoulder before Keller drove away.

The unidentified victim was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center where deputies met with Keller. Deputies arrested Griffin at a location on West Ladiga Street. He was booked into the Calhoun County Jail on a $30,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing date has been set for July, 2nd.
