Piedmont Set to Repair Natural Gas Line

A potentially dangerous situation in Piedmont will soon be repaired as city officials voted to replace a leaking valve along one of the city’s main natural gas lines.

During Tuesday’s city council meeting, Piedmont Water, Gas, & Sewer Manager Byrian Watts presented the council with details of the upcoming repair, calling it an “emergency situation.”

The council wasted no time accepting the low bid of $42,487.83 from TJ Construction for the 30 hour job.

Watts described the repair as a “difficult procedure, requiring specialized equipment.”

He said the company will begin acquiring the needed materials and most likely start work by the early next week.

In other business, bills for payment were approved in the amount of $341,974.14.

Mayor Bill Baker announced an upcoming flag retirement ceremony scheduled 11am on Saturday, June 13th, the Piedmont DAV.

Baker also announced the Piedmont Ministerial Associations plans to hold a prayer service  on Wednesday, June 17th, starting 6pm in Veterans Memorial Park.

The next regular Piedmont City Council Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16th, immediately following the work session, which is set for 5:30pm.
