City of Gadsden Begins COVID-19 Utility Assistance Program.

Gadsden, AL– The City of Gadsden has a new utility assistance program designed to help Gadsden residents who’ve fallen behind on their utility bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Federal Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds were allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) to make this program possible.

Applicants must demonstrate a financial hardship due to loss of income, reduction in income, a household member tested positive for COVID-19, or a household member had to quarantine because of close contact with a person that tested positive for COVID-19, and the household must meet federal low-moderate income requirements.

Gadsden residents that meet the above requirements, may qualify for up to three consecutive months of utility assistance.  Payments will be based on the actual bills, up to $600 per household, and payment will be made directly to the utility provider.  Qualifying utilities include garbage, water, electricity, and gas.
