Cherokee County experienced widespread power outages throughout Wednesday evening, as a strong storm front made its way through the area.
Between 6:30 and 10:00, high winds and heavy rainfall left trees down and caused damage to power lines, with reports of transformers being blown as well, resulted in loss of service to several hundred residents in a number of locations; that, including Northwood Estates in Centre, Cedar Bluff along Alabama Highway 9 to the state line, and so on. Work crews were soon dispatched and service was restored in a timely manner.
We’ve yet to receive any reports of any property damage.
We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
At the WEIS Radio studios we measured slightly more than two inches of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
